SOCAP CANADA AWARDS

INFORMATION AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The objectives of the SOCAP Canada awards program are to:

1.        Recognize professional achievements and contributions to the consumer affairs field.

2.        Acknowledge an individual for his/her contributions to SOCAP Canada.

3.        Enhance visibility of SOCAP Canada membership activities.

4.        Support membership participation and growth.

Categories have been created to focus on both programs and individual achievement.  The awards committee encourages members to nominate themselves, as well as other SOCAP Canada members and their programs.

The SOCAP Canada awards program is open only to SOCAP Canada members.  Awards committee members and their companies or organizations are not eligible to enter.

Entries should be submitted, by October 24, 2005  as follows:

1.        Complete the attached entry form.

2.        Category I only – provide copies of additional relevant supporting documentation

Remember to keep all original documentation for your records.  Entry materials will not be returned.  Please contact Joy Auckland (905-455-8340 x480) directly for more information.

Judging of entries will take place after the deadline.  Award recipients will be notified by telephone.  A letter will be sent to the chief executive officer (or designee) of each recipient’s organization and may be presented at a company function if desired.

Jean Harris 1991 Beverly Aldrick Award for Consumer Service and Education in recognition of outstanding achievement of the Royal Bank Consumer Information Service

Dick Vosburgh 1991 Marianne King - Wilson Award for Individual Achievement in recognition of outstanding contribution to the purpose and objectives of SOCAP Canada.

Carol Forrest 1992 Marianne King-Wilson Award for Individual Achievement in recognition of outstanding contribution to the purpose and objectives of SOCAP Canada.

Jacqui D’Eon 1994 Marianne King-Wilson Award for Individual Achievement in recognition of outstanding contribution to the purpose and objectives of SOCAP Canada.

Julie Triolo 1998 Marianne King-Wilson Award for Individual Achievement in recognition of outstanding contribution to the purpose and objectives of SOCAP Canada.

Kathy Leonard 2001 Marianne King Wilson Award for Indvidual Achievement in recognition of outstanding contribution to the purpose and objectives of SOCAP Canada.

Linda Sales 2002 Beverly Aldrick Award for Consumer Service and Education in recognition of outstanding achievement in the field.

Edie Zon 2003 Marianne King-Wilson Award for Individual Achievement in recognition of
Outstanding contribution to the purpose and objectives of SOCAP Canada.

Monica Beaumont 2004 Beverly Aldrick Award for Consumer Service and education in recognition of outstanding achievement of Kraft Canada’s Consumer Response department.

Magda Mutch 2004 Marianne King-Wilson Award for Individual Achievement in recognition of Outstanding contribution to the purpose and objectives of SOCAP Canada.

Consumer Service and Education
The Bev Aldrick Award

 Individual achievement
 The Marianne King-Wilson Award
Awarded To: A SOCAP Canada member involved in the development of programs
or publications used to assist in educating and informing the consumer/customer.

or

A SOCAP Canada member whose work-related activity or achievement made a significant contribution to the success of the SOCAP Canada organization or the employment organization by providing responsiveness to consumer needs.

 Awarded To: A SOCAP member who has
 contributed significantly to the purpose and
 objectives of SOCAP Canada.  Ideally, the
 SOCAP Canada member may have
 accomplished one or more of the following:
 
bullet

served as a role model for members

bullet

exhibited exceptional organizational ability

bullet

participated in speaking engagements on behalf of SOCAP

bullet

contributed consistently to the SOCAP Canada organization

Submissions for this award may be made by the individual or by a peer. 
All supporting documentation must accompany the submission.  The recipient of this award is chosen by
the Awards committee.

The recipient of this award is chosen by
the SOCAP Canada Board of Directors.  Names of nominees should be forwarded
to the Awards committee for the Board’s consideration.

 
JUDGING CRITERIA

CATEGORY I

1. Submissions may be made by a SOCAP member for themselves or for a peer.
2. Submissions need not exceed 2-3 pages excluding exhibits.
3. Programs may or may not result in publication by the entrants’ company or organization.
4. Areas that should be described and supported are as follows:

RESEARCH AND PLANNING
Judges will review the stated objectives with particular attention, where possible, to originality or uniqueness of entry including:
1. What needs analysis was done?
2. What criteria were used?
3. What measurable/quantifiable objectives were established?
4. What department resources went into the program?
5. What other departments, external groups or organizations were involved?
6. Were there budget considerations?
7. Other appropriate factors.

EXECUTION
Judges will measure against standards set by SOCAP Canada for all program plans, materials and activities including:
1. What techniques were used to accomplish stated objectives?
2. What was the role of the SOCAP member? (lead, contributory)
3. What was the company’s sense of commitment or was this a factor?
4. How was it implemented?
5. Other appropriate factors.

EVALUATION
Judges will consider the effectiveness of the program in meetings its stated objectives with particular emphasis on measurable/quantifiable results including:
1. How well did the program meet stated objectives?
2. How did it improve responsiveness to consumer needs?
3. Were quality measures/benchmarks established before the program started?
4. Were there any unique challenges during the project that impacted its outcome? (company amalgamation, downsizing, etc.)
5. Other appropriate factors.


CATEGORY II

1. List on the entry form the contributions, of which you are aware, made by the nominee to SOCAP Canada.
2. Supporting materials are not required.
